NEWS: Dan Proft sending bullying emails to tea party organizers

To all my Illinois Tea Party and conservative friends,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am very gratified that my open letter exposing Dan Proft has struck such a chord. The letter was just a restatement of what so many Illinois conservatives were already thinking and saying in emails and on facebook. My letter also resulted in many others –  conservatives and tea party organizers – sending their own letters to each other, facilitating an open discussion.

It was interesting to see so much agreement. Freedom of speech is important.  Getting at the truth is even more important.

As you can imagine, I’ve had a little experience asking tough questions. As proof, here’s a short video called “A Conservative in Chicago,” which documents my 20 years of conservative activism.

In a recent Illinois Tea Party conference call Tuesday, there was a statement made against me because of my fallout with AM 560 WIND,  which financially sponsored Teacon last year. My friend Andrew Breitbart was also mentioned in the call. Unfortunately, Andrew isn’t here any longer to set the record straight. But I can tell you that he wasn’t a fan of hypocrisy or the way WIND or its co-host Amy Jacobson have conducted themselves.

In fact, here’s the late great Andrew Breitbart criticizing AM 560 WIND on my radio program and a video he had produced for Breitbart.com.

I also understand that there are a few other tea party organizers who have been critical of my letter. With some, it is just self-interest or it is because they were close to Steve Stevlic and the Chicago Tea Party organization. With others, there are still hard feelings because I wrote about Proft friend and ally Steve Stevlic and his prostitution problem in my DC-based columns last year. But if the tea party isn’t about truth, what is it about?

As to any factual statements about Proft that I have made, I encourage everyone to do their own research. There is no need to take my word for it.

In fact, here are just a few links (there’s more of course) for people who are interested in hard facts and would like the opportunity to ask more questions. Read the links and search the State Board of Elections for contributions.

I have also heard from many people that Dan Proft has sent bullying and threatening emails to those tea party organizers who expressed criticism of him this week.  He has even asked some of those leaders to throw people out of their groups. Imagine that. All of this, unfortunately, proves the point that I was making.

I know that asking hard questions is never easy so I applaud everyone that is speaking out and want to let you know that if you received a bullying email – you weren’t alone.  It is a common tactic to attack the messenger and that is what has happened here.

It is also not surprising to me at all that “some” people are also attacking me for “daring” to question Proft, his funding, and his true motives. When I say “some” people I mean a few people in the Chicago Tea Party leadership.  But since many of them work for Proft, why should their opinion matter to me? None of this is very surprising.

Before my letter even appeared, a number of organizations had disinvited Proft from speaking engagements at their group due to his support of dubious candidates in the GOP primary. That led a number of tea party organizers to ask the question: Why is Proft, with all his shady Cicero deals and his PAC’s support of questionable candidates, still speaking at Chicago Tea Party’s Tax Day Rally?  It is a legitimate question.

But, frankly, I already knew the answer to that question already.

The current head of the Chicago Tea Party, Eric Kohn, was the operations manager for Proft’s Urqhardt Media, which received no-bid contracts from Cicero. Kohn is currently treasurer for Fiscal Accountability PAC which is one of Dan Proft’s connected PACs.

In the conference call, a Chicago Tea Party cited the importance of “Freedom of Speech” in their “decision” to have Dan Proft speak at the rally and I agree wholeheartedly. Consequently, if “freedom of speech” is the goal, then surely they would also allow me to speak on April 16th, wouldn’t they?

Feel free to ask the Chicago Tea Party organizers about that and let me know.  The answer would be interesting since the organizers have not allowed me to speak at any of the Chicago Tea Party rallies –  even, in 2010, when I was a GOP candidate for comptroller against Judy Baar Topinka – one of Proft’s close friends and allies. From their actions, freedom of speech does not really seem to be the goal.

If anyone has any questions, I would welcome the opportunity to come speak to your organization and present you and your membership with the hard facts. As I have said before in this email, if the Illinois Tea Party isn’t about truth, what are we about?

Regards,

William J. Kelly

KELLY’S WARNING: DAN PROFT IS A FALSE-FLAG CONSERVATIVE

A letter from William J. Kelly to all Illinois and tea party conservatives:

I should have said it a long, long time ago but I’m saying it now: Dan Proft is worse than a RINO. He is a “false flag” conservative.

I first met Proft in 1994 when he volunteered to work on my campaign for congress in the heavily gerrymandered First Congressional District. I was running against former Black Panther Bobby Rush and I succeeded in exposing Rush’s $50,000 in back taxes, unpaid child support and parking tickets. As I was in my twenties, that was quite enough at the time.

So I have known Proft for almost twenty years but I realize that I don’t know him at all.

Who is this guy, really?

Proft has revealed his true treacherous colors this election cycle for everyone to see. It is not even deniable. He endorsed a lot of candidates this season. Unfortunately, they were all “combine-style” RINOs running against true conservatives.

He endorsed Jim Falvey, a candidate with a Democrat voting record, over Richard Grabowski in the Third Congressional District. Why?

He endorsed Jeanne Ives over Tea Party conservative Laura Pollastrini and Dave Carlin, District Director for Joe Walsh. Why?

Proft’s interference in the race of longtime conservative Rep. Don Manzullo and endorsement of freshman Rep. Adam Kinzinger has enraged Tea Party leaders in the Rockford area who supported Manzullo and they should be enraged.  But Tea Party leaders shouldn’t be surprised.

And, yes, Dan Proft endorsed my opponent in the 42nd ward committeeman’s race in Chicago. As I have made clear, my goal was to become Chairman of the Chicago GOP, build a real Republican Party, slate Republican candidates for all open offices, and build an organization to get out the vote necessary in Chicago and Cook County in order for Republican candidates to win statewide.

And, although, Proft would probably tell you in a speech that these are also his goals, he endorsed my opponent, one 23 year-old Tommy Smithburg, whose family gives tens of thousands of dollars to the Chicago Democrats that Dan Proft claims to oppose. Democrats that include Rahm Emanuel (this was a $10,000 contribution for Rahm’s mayoral bid), Dick Durbin, and Barack Obama. Again, why?

So who is this guy? Who is Dan Proft really?

We do know that he has a history of taking no-bid lucrative contracts from dirty Cicero. His business partners are still taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from Cicero. And Proft still has his dirty fingers in the dirty pot of Mayor Larry Dominick of Cicero, who is a hold-over from the reign of convicted felon Betty Loren-Maltese.

Who is this guy?

He says he has a successful track record of working for conservative candidates. But he publicly admits he worked for Judy Baar Topinka. Around the same time, he proudly claims to have worked for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Jack Ryan. But the Ryan campaign was the worst bungled effort I have ever seen. Dan Proft could not have done a better job of handing that U.S. Senate seat to Barack Obama if he was trying to.  Was he trying to?

Who is this guy?

To all conservatives and tea party leaders, are you Dan Proft’s faithful followers or his useful idiots?

As Vladmir Lenin once said, “The best way to control the opposition is to lead it.” Proft has definitely been a student of Lenin.

However, I am a student of Reagan. And, sadly, I can spot a traitor and a backstabber when I see one.

Hopefully, you can too.

Faithfully,

William J. Kelly

CAUGHT ON TAPE: SMITHBURG CAMPAIGN TAPS DISGRACED GOP DIRECTOR FOR POLL WATCHER

Chicago, Illinois, March 20, 2012 - The  campaign of Tommy Smithburg has tapped a disgraced former Cook County Republican employee, Jeremy Rose, who was forced to resign in a sex abuse scandal involving young Republican females, to be their poll watcher. The campaign worker was also forced to step down from the Chicago Young Republicans, but as the video indicates, he is still involved in the organization.

The Kelly campaign says that this is one more reason why Smithburg, the 23 year-old frat boy who has been involved in his own scandal – a violent sexual hazing scandal at Northwestern – is wrong for the 42nd ward.

The sex scandal was covered by the Huffington Post, Capitol Fax, and numerous conservative blogs. In one incident,  a woman reported, ” I became very uncomfortable on the walk over, as Jeremy was putting his hand on my neck and around my waist….When we arrived, Jeremy continued with this sort of behavior, putting his hand on my thigh…”  Apparently, when the woman tried to leave, it only got worse.  “Jeremy and the other guy refused to walk me out, saying I needed to stay and hang out with them, and Jeremy took my phone away from me (I had been trying to call a cab) and sat on my lap, not letting me up. At this point I felt like his behavior was bordering on keeping me there by force.” (Source: Huffington Post)

In addition to his sleazy frat-boy hires and scandal-ridden behavior, Smithburg has been under fire by 42nd ward Republican officials for his unsubstantiated lies about his Republican opponents. He was recently caught in the act of lying about his opponent, longtime Republican William J. Kelly’s voting record despite the availability of the public record at the Chicago Board of Elections.  In an act of face-saving desperation, Smithburg continues to make repeated denials and cover-up his missteps.

Illinois Conservative Candidates Stand with Fox News’ Dick Morris in Chicago

Chicago, Illinois, March 17, 2012 – Illinois conservative candidates from around the state gathered in Chicago recently with Fox News contributor Dick Morris, determined to fight back against President Obama and the Democrat machine in the 2012 elections.  “America met its first conservative in 1981 and fell in love,” said Morris. “Then we met our first liberal in 2009 and we ran screaming in the other direction. It will be awhile before liberalism shows its face again.”

Among the conservative candidates in attendance were: Richard Grabowski, candidate for congress in the 3rd congressional district; Laura Pollastrini, candidate for State Representative, 42nd district; William J. Kelly, candidate for 42nd ward Chicago committeeman; Angela Dell, candidate for Will County Board; Catherine Perretta, candidate for Will County Board; Jon Zahm, Illinois Director for Rick Santorum, and candidate for delegate and Henry County Board, Lynn Davis-Livesay, State Senate candidate, 19th district and Santorum delegate and many others.

Kelly Braces for Smithburg’s Last Minute Campaign Attack that He’s is an “Illegal Alien”

Chicago, Illinois, March 15, 2012 –  Republican William J. Kelly, candidate for 42nd ward committeeman, is bracing against a strange last minute attack from his 23 year-old opponent, Tommy Smithburg that he, Kelly, is an illegal alien.

The Kelly campaign maintains that this accusation – like everything else that Smithburg has said in this campaign –  is 100% false. Not only were both of Kelly’s parents, Bill and Barbara Kelly, born in America but William J. Kelly himself was born within Chicago’s city boundaries on March 10, 1966  and was brought home from the hospital one week later – on St. Patrick’s day – 46 years ago today. Kelly says that he has the papers to prove it.

However, the Kelly campaign is not leaving anything to chance. A press conference will be called on Monday where Kelly will produce his:

- Birth certificate

- Social Security card

- Report cards

- Library card

- Boy Scout and Cubs Scout merit badges

- Little League trophy (with name inscribed)

Another line of attack the Smithburg campaign will likely attempt to exploit is that for the few years of Kelly’s life in Chicago friends, family, classmates, and neighbors referred to the young William J. Kelly as “Billy.”

“Judging from the Smithburg campaign’s previous tactics – this self-admitted revelation will likely be used to sow the seeds of confusion and doubt. We only hope that the truth – that William J. Kelly  is, infact, a proud American citizen will get out before the polls close on March 20th,” said a representative for the Kelly campaign.

At the press conference on Monday, Kelly also intends to enter the following undoctored photos into evidence.

Regarding his campaign, Kelly says, “My only goal at this point is to give the people of Chicago what I have wanted my entire life – a real Republican Party . This campaign has been truly vicious – and while my opponent has no record and only offers lies and distortions, it is always important that we maintain our vision, our faith, and yes, our sense of humor.”

Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

SEX, HAZING VIDEO, AND SMITHBURG’S DEMOCRAT LIES (VIDEO)

Chicago, Illinois, March 16, 2012 – If Tommy Smithburg, candidate for 42nd ward committeeman, thought he was going to be a good representative of the Illinois Republican Party, he and his cronies had better think again.

A video has surfaced featuring the violent group that Smithburg hired for a recent Northwestern fraternity recruitment.  WARNING: The video contains graphic images, extreme violence, people being abused with staple guns, thumb tacks, broken bottles, and lewd sex acts.  Organized by Smithburg, attendees were encouraged to cheer on the physical abuse at the college campus and videos and photos were emailed around campus exhibiting the level of violence which shocked the school administration. The event was not approved by Northwestern and Smithburg and his fraternity were suspended from Northwestern in what was deemed an illegal hazing incident. The bizarre incident does not reflect well on the recent college graduate who has no record as a Republican or as a conservative yet is vying to represent Chicago’s 42nd ward.

Smithburg’s despicable frat-boy behavior is reflective of his decision to hire the disgraced Jeremy Rose, who was forced to resign from the Cook County Republican Party and the Chicago Young Republicans in a sex scandal involving young Republican females.

In an act of face-saving desperation, Smithburg continues to make repeated denials and cover-up his missteps today.

Kelly has been endorsed in the race by national conservative political strategist and Fox News contributor, Dick Morris.  But Smithburg has been criticized for “buying” political endorsements from Illinois politicians who received donations from his parents, who contribute to key Democrats like Rahm Emanuel, Barack Obama, and Dick Durbin among others.

Kelly Takes Legal Action Against Smithburg, Rose for Lying about Voting Record

Page 1, Cease and Desist

Chicago, IL, March 13, 2012 – Counsel for Republican William J. Kelly issued a cease and desist letter to Tommy Smithburg for a false political mailer and internet news they have been circulating saying that Kelly is a Democrat.

Kelly’s opponent, Tommy Smithburg, whose family gives tens of thousands of dollars to Rahm Emanuel, Barack Obama, Dick Durbin and George Ryan, accused Kelly in the mailer of being a straight Democrat voter – a fact contradicted by the Chicago Board of Elections certified record. According to Kelly’s attorney, there is no record of anyone – Smithburg or his staff – or anyone else pulling a copy of Kelly’s certified voting record – which Kelly finds suspicious.

Despite obvious evidence to the contrary, Smithburg  has continued to spread the lie about Kelly’s record and has not yet come forward to offer an apology or retraction.

Consequently, Kelly’s attorney issued a cease and desist letter Monday to Smithburg and his political advisors Jeremy Rose and Colin Corbett. Rose was forced to resign in disgrace as Executive Director of the Cook County Republican Party in a sex scandal involving young Republican females. Smithburg’s family money also “bought” him Republican endorsements despite that the twenty-three year-old has no record as a Republican or a conservative.

Kelly’s cease and desist letter says in part:

This letter is written for settlement purposes, to afford each of you the opportunity to right the wrongs that your reckless conduct has caused. Specifically, at fault are your public statements regarding William J. Kelly, which contain numerous incorrect and false facts, to such a degree as being defamatory.

Page 2, Cease and Desist

William J. Kelly is not a “Democrat” as you have publicly asserted. Even the most cursory review of Mr. Kelly’s many writings and statements throughout the years confirm that he has strongly advocated for and on behalf of the Republican Party and its candidates. As to his voting record, I have inquired with the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, and received confirmed that nobody has obtained a “certified” copy of Mr. Kelly’s voting record – the only source from which a “certified” record may be obtained. Nonetheless, Mr. Kelly’s voting record with the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners confirms that not only has Mr. Kelly been an active voter, he has selected the Republican Party primary ballot in all recent elections.

Kelly says that Smithburg must offer a full retraction and a public apology along with the settlement, which includes damage to his reputation.

Dick Morris’ Urgent Message to Chicago Republicans, Taps “Guerilla Fighter” Kelly to Lead GOP

Chicago, IL, March 13, 2012 -Dick Morris, Fox News contributor and the preeminent political strategists of our time, came to Chicago Saturday to deliver an urgent message to Illinois Republicans: It’s time to take Chicago back from the Democrats.”At the moment what passes for political opposition in Chicago is the grumblings of disaffected factions in the Democrat party that haven’t gotten their patronage payouts yet. So they go on the air and complain until they get their money and then they shut up. There is no viable Republican opposition in this city,” said Morris, who was very critical of the Chicago Republican Party.

Because the state Republicans failed to get just 20% of the vote from Cook County and Chicago, they lost the governor’s race and control of the state remap for the next decade, giving the Democrats yet another election advantage.

With a stunning jewel-like backdrop of the City of Chicago from 95 floors up on top of the John Hancock building, Morris announced he has hand-picked conservative firebrand William J. Kelly as his choice to head-up the Chicago Republican Party and 42nd ward committeeman.

“What you’ve got to do here is breathe life into this party. Give it a chance to bloom. Challenge the excrescences of this very excrete mayor. And really go after it,” explained the best-selling conservative author. “And I couldn’t think of a better warrior. A better guerilla fighter. A better hand-to-hand combatant than my friend William Kelly.”

But the political establishment is dead-set against William Kelly succeeding and changing the Chicago GOP for the better into a dynamic viable party of opposition. John Kass of the Chicago Tribune has coined a term for that “Illinois political class that’s not committed to any party; that simply want to make money off the taxpayers.”

Kass calls it “The Combine.” And Illinois Democrats and Republicans in name only are a part of it. So what do you do in Illinois to the most conservative of Republicans? You call them a Democrat.

Kelly’s opponent, Tommy Smithburg, whose family gives tens of thousands of dollars to Rahm Emanuel, Barack Obama, Dick Durbin and George Ryan, accused Kelly in a recent political mailer and through internet news sources of being a straight Democrat voter – a fact contradicted by the Chicago Board of Elections certified record. According to Kelly’s attorney, there is no record of anyone – Smithburg or his staff – or anyone else pulling a copy of Kelly’s certified voting record. Something Kelly finds suspicious.

Smithburg sent out a mailer last week with the claim and Kelly’s attorney today issued a cease and desist letter Monday to Smithburg and his political advisors Jeremy Rose and Colin Corbett.

See the full copy of Kelly’s cease and desist letter here:

“As Dick Morris says, this is the best chance we have to build a real Republican Party in Chicago, which is why this Smithburg-inspired Combine is so desperate to stop me,” says Kelly. “Please contribute anything you can so that we can let the voters of Chicago know the truth.”
