Filing in Cook County Circuit Court Monday/ Court Hearing on Writ of Mandaums on Tuesday
On Monday morning, January 4, William J. Kelly and his attorneys Alison and Robert Motta of Motta & Motta Law Firm filed a petition for Writ of Mandamus and Injunctive Relief seeking to prevent the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability to move forward with any vote on the closure of Thomson Correctional Center until after a public hearing that complies with the Illinois State Facilities Closure Act occurs.
Kelly says that the public risks associated with the continued detention of war prisoners should not be forced upon the citizens of Illinois without sufficient public input and acceptance. “This plan is just Al-Qaeda for Cash and the people of Illinois and across the country deserve better than this. This plan represents an unacceptable risk for Illinois. We’ve been fighting a war to keep Al-Qaeda off our soil. Let’s keep it that way.” Kelly is calling on residents in Illinois and especially Sterling and Thomson to join his lawsuit as plaintiffs.
A COPY OF KELLY’S FILED WRIT OF MANDAMUS ON THE THOMSON PRISON CLOSURE PLAN WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO PRESS AFTER 10:15 AM TODAY.
On Tuesday, January 5th at noon, the hearing will take place in Judge Martin S. Agran’s courtroom. Kelly and his attorney will be available before and after the hearing for comment.
