Candidate for Comptroller Calls it a “Classic Quinn Bait & Switch” Publicity Stunt

The campaign of Republican comptroller candidate William J. Kelly has issued this statement regarding Governor Pat Quinn’s State of the State address today:

“I want real reformers, outsiders, and activists to know that a Kelly in the Illinois comptroller’s office is your ace in the hole. Governor Pat Quinn’s State of the State speech today was very revealing. He showed he has no intention of ever reforming the state of Illinois and never did.”

“In his speech, Governor Quinn called for a constitutional amendment on ethics reform and a referendum in November. But for Quinn to call for an “amendment” on ethics reform is like saying that Governor’s office will stay your execution – but first he has to petition the Governor. Well, guess what? He is the Governor. This is a classic Pat Quinn “bait and switch” publicity stunt.  He says he wants reform and yet never takes any real action to make it happen.”

“Illinois needs reform right now – no more stall tactics, no more delays, no more publicity stunts, and no more excuses from Governor Quinn that has put us at least $10 billion in debt. As the only outsider reformer in the race for comptroller, I will, if elected, truly open the books to government watchdogs and investigative reporters, expose all of the insider deals, and, finally balance the budget,” said Kelly.

William J. Kelly is running on a platform to be Illinois’ first “activist” comptroller. He is the former executive director of the National Taxpayers United of Illinois. He is also an entrepreneur with an Emmy award-winning TV production company and currently hosts the multi-state sports TV series, “Sportsaholic.” For information, visit
