Election Board Record Confirms Smithburg Lie
SUNDAY, March 4, 2012
WHAT: Republican William J. Kelly will make available his voting records to show that his opponent Tommy Smithburg is lying about his record. Smithburg has publicly accused longtime Republican William Kelly of being a lifelong Democrat and “voting Democrat at least five times.” But a certified voting record dated March 3, 2012 from the Chicago Board of Elections indicates that Smithburg is lying.
The voting record certified by Board of Elections Executive Director Lance Gough reveals that William J. Kelly has voted straight Republican– a sharp contrast to the clumsy claims of Smithburg and his staff.
A copy of Kelly’s voting record will be available at the press conference.
Smithburg’s family has given tens of thousands of dollars to key Democrats and Republicans. The contributions have also “bought” Smithburg, who is 23 years-old, the endorsements of Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady, failed gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady, and former Gov. Jim Edgar – all who have personally received tens of thousands of dollars from the Smithburg family.
Kelly has been endorsed in the race by Fox News contributor and nationally renown conservative strategist, Dick Morris. Smithburg and William J. Kelly face off for Republican committeeman of the 42nd ward of Chicago on March 20th.
